My name is Nicolas Stettler, I'm 17 years old and I live in Switzerland. I got my first camera as a present about 7 years ago. At first, I mainly photographed planes. For about 4 years now, however, I have been concentrating mainly on animals. The region I live in is ideal for photographing birds. Especially in winter you can find a high diversity of birds here. In the course of time I have concentrated more and more on certain species. For example, I spend a large part of my free time in winter with the wintering waterfowl. The hours of observation and experience help me to find and photograph these species. Besides the various waterbirds, I also photograph a local beaver family which I have accompanied for several years now.
At the moment I'm still going to grammar school. After graduating this summer, I want to start studying biology in Bern in the autumn. In the last few years I have also become more and more involved in ornithology. Last spring I ran a basic ornithology course together with 4 leaders. This year I am co-leading a field ornithology course. For my Matura thesis, I mapped the Cirl Bunting in the vineyards around Lake Biel and carried out a habitat analysis based on these results.
